WA: Academic calls for middle aged men suicide inquiry

PERTH, Feb 22 AAP - An academic today called on the West Australian government to order
an independent inquiry into male suicide in WA, citing an alarming rise in suicides among
middle-aged men in the state.

Edith Cowan University (ECU) researcher Allan Huggins said there had been a 48 per
cent increase in two years of the suicide rate of West Australian men aged between 39
and 55.
