Fed: Turnbull 'last hope' to stop pulp mill

A critic of Tasmania's proposed pulp mill says federal Environment Minister MALCOLM
TURNBULL is their last hope .. because the state government is compromised.

Businessman GEOFFREY COUSINS says he's hopeful Mr TURNBULL can find a way to conduct
a proper process .. into plans by timber company Gunns to build the two billion dollar
plant.

Mr COUSINS has told Southern Cross Broadcasting .. the minister's found ways to get
around state laws and state issues in other matters.

The former HOWARD government adviser says a royal commission should be conducted into
the handling of the issue by the Tasmanian government .. which backs the mill.

The Tasmanian government's due to vote on the issue this week.

Mr TURNBULL's seeking public comment before deciding whether to accept advice from
his department to approve the Gunns plan.

Mr COUSINS is publishing an full-page advertisement in a newspaper in Mr TURNBULL's
marginal Sydney electorate of Wentworth tomorrow.

It features the support of celebrities including actors BRYAN BROWN and CATE BLANCHETT.
